Taking Pictures is... {Fill in the Blank}

Friday, December 21, 2012

As I was working on the foundation for this new blog a few weeks ago, I knew I wanted to include a quote that reflected how much I enjoy the raw, candid, real life that's captured in everyday snapshots of our family. Since January 1st, 2009, I've been participating in Project365. It began when I was six months pregnant with my oldest daughter and I haven't been able to put the camera down since then. Sure, I've forgotten to take a picture on a few days, but the goal of the project (or at least how I've approached it) has never been to photograph something every.single.day, but to capture what a year in our lives really looks like, beyond the milestone events of birthdays, holidays, vacations, etc.

What started with Project365 has naturally morphed into a love for Project Life that changed the way I approach documenting and scrapbooking. And there's no turning back. I wish I could encourage everyone to attempt the challenge of taking daily photos at least once, to see and feel what it's like to become more aware of the seemingly ordinary routines and activities of our lives. All of those captured moments add up to something so much bigger than a simple collection of individual photos.

So in the spirit of encouraging everyone to take more "everyday" photographs, I've made a quote card for you to download: "Taking pictures is savoring life intensely, every hundredth of a second" by Marc Riboud. I know many of us often wish that time would slow down just a little bit, so we can savor more of our days with those we love and doing the things we love to do. For me, taking pictures is a way to let the moments that speak the loudest to my heart as I live them stay close at hand long after they're gone. And so far, it's the closest solution to stopping time I've been able to achieve. (Please, if you've got that one figured out, your secret is safe with me!)

I hope you enjoy this download (for personal use only) and if you choose to use it in any of your Project Life pages, please send me a link. I'd love to see your work.

And I'm curious to know...how would you answer the prompt of "Taking pictures is..."?

What do photographs mean to you?

Hello 2013 & {WELCOME}

Monday, December 17, 2012

With the holidays fast approaching and the recent promise of a fun-filled, rewarding and beyond-all-expectations marvelous 2013 almost within reach, I've been a bundle of jittery excitement for the past two weeks in anticipation of this:

Surreal is about all I can muster right now. 2013 is going to one seriously amazing year. I'm so happy to welcome this new opportunity to scrapbook in a way I feel so passionate about and want to share with others. Project Life changed the way I think about recording my day-to-day life (as I'm sure it has for many of you too). I'm humbled and honored to be part of this team. And I hope with all my heart that I'll be able to play a small role in filling the "big shoes" planted by the 2012 Project Life team (you are awe-inspiring).

You can meet all of the new extremely talented Project Life Creative Team members here:

Thank you for stopping by my new corner of the blogging world. I'm excited to see it evolve and I hope you'll share your lives with me too as we get to know each other over the next year.

Hello and Welcome, 2013. You've already exceeded my expectations!
