One Little Word: 2013 | COURAGE

COURAGE | the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear; bravery.

My first journey into the One Little Word adventure started by Ali Edwards began a few years ago with the word today. I held it close to my heart that year as our family grew for the first time, as we moved across the country, as our careers transitioned and in so many ways I had to learn to slwo down, embrace one day at a time, take things in stride and trust that I was giving it my all to do what I needed to do each day to just.keep.moving.forward. It seemed like such a simple thing to take a word and weave it into my daily thoughts and actions, but wow, it was more powerful than I ever imagined.

This year, especially this month, as I finally defend my Ph.D. thesis (yah!), I need this new word courage to be front and center in my life. While thinking about possible words for the new year in late December, I came across courage at least five or six times in different ways over the course of 24 hours. It was amusing and a little strage (ok, I get it already!), so I let it in and can't wait to see how it helps me finish this chapter of my professional life in a few weeks and how it will inspire and challenge me to step outside the box over the next year. I don't know what this means yet. And I want that feeling to be exciting, not frightening or anxiety-producing. So, enter COURAGE.

If you're taking on a One Little Word challenge for 2013, I'd love to hear how you chose your word (or it chose you), please share in the comments or send me an email. I started a board on Pinterest and encourage you to do something similar if you love quotes as much as I do!

Design F add-on page has been added to my Project Life album to celebrate this OLW. On the back side of this page I'll add photos or written examples of how I've lived courage this year, one each month. So excited to fill those pockets. How will your OLW inspire you?
